October 1971

After Chassis 1004 was sold to Herbert Muller assembled, but without the drivetrain, he refurbished it using parts from several cars, including 1008, which had been destroyed in an inter-series race, killing Pedro Rodriguez. Some parts of the 1004 still retain the 1008 stampings.

Chassis 1004 was then re-stamped 1016 as Herbert Muller also had 1016, and this would make carnet transportation across international borders for further interseries races possible.

1004/1016 did not race and was offered to Piere Bardinon as newly restored and not raced. It did not sell.

Notable Memory: Chassis 1004 was historically raced and the engine wear was lowering the oil pressure. The pressure relief was adjusted for higher pressures. This made for cold startups requiring a lot of caution so as not to rupture the oil filter. At Sebring in March 1986, Historic racer Steve Cohen managed to procure a drive in #1004/1016 and upon exiting ahead of Dr. Giordano in his Daytona Competezione Chassis 16407 he had not warmed the oil sufficiently and as he exited turn #2 he blew the oil filter. He continued full out and blew the engine, dumping oil all over Dr. Giordanos Daytona.
