“Le Mans”

In June of 1970 filming began for the movie “Le Mans”, a 1971 film depicting a fictional 24 Hours of Le Mans auto race starring Steve McQueen and directed by Lee H. Katzin.  It features actual footage captured during the 1970 race held the previous June.

Chassis 1004 would play a role in this film as one of the factory Ferrari’s to compete against the factory Porsche team.

Prior to filming, #1004 was sold to Ecurie Francorchamps (J. Swaters), who refurbished it as a long-tail Berlinetta with internal door hinges and Series ll nose to be leased to Solar Productions for the movie. In the film, it appears as No. 7 and is driven by Renee Herzog. Renee and Danny Muller relayed this information to the current owner in person at the premier Targa 66 event in Florida.
